A favorite Beauregard Parish tradition will make its return on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
The Beauregard Parish Agricultural Fair will run this year from October 3-9. Also known colloquially as the ‘DeRidder Fair’, it holds the distinction of being one of the longest-running fairs in the state of Louisiana. 2017 marks the 89th year the fairgrounds will open its gates to visitors seeking to enjoy a wide variety of games, exhibits, great food and live shows. This year’s theme for the event is ‘Homegrown Cuisine – Southern Fare in 2017’, and will highlight and celebrate the bounty and diversity of the area’s growers and culinary traditions. In addition to a full host of midway rides provided by Goldstar Amusements, this year’s itinerary also features family-friendly puppet shows, clowns, stand-up comedy, concerts and livestock presentations.
The fair, which has been sponsored annually by Beauregard Parish since 1928, has long provided an opportunity for local vendors and nonprofit groups to generate both revenue and awareness of their businesses and service offerings. In previous years, the fair has hosted more than 70 different artisans, restaurants, civic groups and entertainment vendors at the booths and tables featured around the grounds. More than 14,000 visitors are expected to visit the midway between opening day and gate closing on October 9.
To kick off the festivities, there will be a parade on Tuesday, October 3 at 4:45 PM. Themed floats participating in the parade will be judged on their creativity and execution, with the best floats being eligible for prizes. Also joining in the procession will be area marching bands, local emergency departments and vehicles, classic cars, clubs and even a few furry, friendly critters.
Opening night will feature performance troupe, Stardust Circus. Billed as “America’s Most Spectacular Show,” Stardust Circus offers all the thrills of high-flying stunts, magic and exotic acts you’d expect to find with a traveling circus.
Fairgoers can also look forward to several contests over the course of the 3-day fest, including essay, poster, fiddling and hay bale decorating competitions, as well as the crowd-favorite Little Miss and Queen Beaufair pageants.
Beauregard Parish Fair tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
